On the last Friday in April we kicked off our 2017 wedding season with the wedding of Huw and Laura.
Their ceremony took place at Penyrheol Cemetery Chapel in Caerphhilly with the reception at Islwyn Indoor Bowls Centre in Blackwood.
Our day started with Jo and the bride, with her family for bridal prep at the couple’s home in Markham and Paul was with the groom and his entourage a few doors away. Huw was in the process of cooking his breakfast of poached eggs when Paul arrived whilst in the bride’s household it was hair and makeup for the bride and her bridesmaids
The brides dress was a lace column with a slight kick out at the bottom and a short train, with lace cap sleeves and a button back. Her bouquet was a hand tied mixture of beautifully scented David Austin roses, freesias and gypsophila.
The couple are big fans of VW’s and they each have stunning VW Golfs in which they travelled to the ceremony. They also had a T2 Bay window camper to take the bridesmaids and the brides mum.
Penyrheol Cemetery Chapel is a lovely Victorian Chapel which was lovingly restored by its parish members back in 1991 after being closed for 25 years.
Having two photographers for your day comes into its own during the ceremony because you have one photographer at the front and one shooting from the back, there was a lovely little balcony to the rear of the church so Jo was able to take some photographs from a slightly different viewpoint that was usual.
The group photographs were taken in the chapel grounds and afterwards it was time for photographs with the cars and camper and then we took the newlyweds into the grounds for some photographs and then we all moved to Islwyn Indoor Bowls Centre for a drinks reception.
There is a lovely grassed area to the side of the Bowls centre which at this time of year was covered in the beautiful yellow heads of celandines and tiny dandelions. In the middle of the grassed area is a lone but gorgeous tree which was the main focus point of the couple’s photographs in this area.
We then retired to the reception room to photograph all the details of the room. The wedding cake had been made and decorated by the bride’s step-mum and the wine on the table had been supplied by a friend of the couple. The room was full of lovely little home-made details from jars of heart shaped welsh cakes to the gorgeous centre pieces of moss covered logs with flowers in vintage bottles.
The speeches were outshone by the best man’s speech which included a film of the groom as a child on the local news and a rousing song by him and the groom’s brothers to the happy couple.
Congratulations to Huw and Laura and thanks for letting us be a part of your special day.
